2 Chicks and a Venue were off to visit this little diamond in the rough may be off the beaten path and a little tricky to find but it was well worth the drive. Take a few back roads and you will find a working horse farm full of cowboys and animals in the heart of Sophia called Millikan Farms. One of their horse barns has been turned into an event center.
The open loft space offers plenty of room for weddings up to 200 for a sit down reception. However, I would personally would keep this venue more intimate with 150 or less guests, Jen said. By using the downstairs side patio as a cocktail and dance area you truly embrace the entire barn. They have a customized built in bar area that plays off of an old salon style area but would still offer a couple satellite bar and beverage areas to reduce the bottle neck effect and from having to have guests keep going up and down the steps for a refill.
The upstairs could be a great rustic backdrop for a ceremony if you decided to do all of dinner downstairs or you could use the barn as a country backdrop for and outdoor ceremony option. Splurge on linens and lighting to highlight this venue’s amazing details and rustic vibe. Hang paper lanterns from the ceiling over the outside patio area, bring in a smores bar for a late night “campfire-style” activity, and use lots of willow branches in my centerpieces or décor to accent the height of the loft. Since it’s a working horse farm use bales of hay and handmade quilts for ceremony seating. Baby’s breath and wild flowers would soften the “rough” and “tough” of Millikan Farms. One of the best parts of this venue is the private dressing area for the bridal party and the amount of time you get the property for your event. It recently added heat and air condition to be able to accommodate weddings all year round. All that is left is to throw on some cowboy boots under your dress and kick your heels up for a great night!
