Millikan Farms of Sophia + 2 Chicks and a Venue

Thursday, June 6, 2013

2 Chicks and a Venue were off to visit this little diamond in the rough may be off the beaten path and a little tricky to find but it was well worth the drive. Take a few back roads and you will find a working horse farm full of cowboys and animals in the heart of Sophia called Millikan Farms. One of their horse barns has been turned into an event center. The open loft space offers plenty of room for weddings up to 200 for a sit down reception. However, I would personally would keep this venue more intimate with 150 or less guests, Jen said. By using the downstairs side patio as a cocktail and dance area you truly embrace the entire barn. They have a customized built in bar area that plays off of an old salon style area but would still offer a couple satellite bar and beverage areas to reduce the bottle neck effect and from having to have guests keep going up and down the steps for a refill.

The upstairs could be a great rustic backdrop for a ceremony if you decided to do all of dinner downstairs or you could use the barn as a country backdrop for and outdoor ceremony option. Splurge on linens and lighting to highlight this venue’s amazing details and rustic vibe. Hang paper lanterns from the ceiling over the outside patio area, bring in a smores bar for a late night “campfire-style” activity, and use lots of willow branches in my centerpieces or décor to accent the height of the loft. Since it’s a working horse farm use bales of hay and handmade quilts for ceremony seating. Baby’s breath and wild flowers would soften the “rough” and “tough” of Millikan Farms. One of the best parts of this venue is the private dressing area for the bridal party and the amount of time you get the property for your event. It recently added heat and air condition to be able to accommodate weddings all year round. All that is left is to throw on some cowboy boots under your dress and kick your heels up for a great night!

Mebane Pine Lake Pavilion Wedding | Cameron and Ashley

Monday, June 3, 2013

What a great way to start off our wedding season at Pine Lake Pavilion with Cameron and Ashley. Rain threated us all the way through the night before, but the next day we had beautiful sunshine and gorgeous weather. Cameron and Ashley started off with a first look, which allowed them to have a wonderful and relaxed time with each other. After all of their photographs were done, they both slipped into something a little more dress casual and headed into cocktail hour to allow all their guest time to make it to their Friday evening wedding. Just before the sun was about to set, Cameron slipped on her dress and walked down the aisle, escorted by her father to meet a very delighted groom. Michelle and Matthew had a great time photographing this wedding way into the late evening, and as you can see by the photographs, we had a fun time doing it! Enjoy the images and please feel free to leave us some blog love!

Cameron's Harley Davidson Bridal Portrait + Raleigh, NC

Thursday, April 11, 2013

When Cameron called and told me about her idea of doing her images on her then fiance's Harley Davidson I was so excited. We had it planned for when he had to go out of town for business for two days. We had it all set, and just in case he asked, which he did, we told him we were going to the Tobacco Company to do her portraits. With Ashley good friend in on the top secret plan we were off to the country club in Raleigh near Cameron's home to do the photographs. The first day we had rain, but were all set with an extra day and we were blessed with warm weather and sunshine. It was quite an adventure going to do the photographs and we all had a laughs about how Ashley would never know about the portraits. We had lots of ideas and had a lot of fun, but one we couldn't resist doing was having the person who helped make this all possible to "appear" in one of the photographs! Here are just a few of Cameron's and my favorites from her day! Thank you so much Cameron for an extraordinary time and for just rolling with the ideas I had!

2 Chicks and a Venue + JH Adams Inn

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

The JH Adams Inn is a Italian renaissance styled mansion that was built back in 1918. I have had the pleasure of photographing a few weddings and bridals there and I just adore this beautiful historical home. My friend and chick, Jennifer Ball of Knot Your Average Events would love to do a small intimate wedding of a 100 guests or less to allow guests more room to move around this beautiful place. Although the JH Adams Inn has had events with up to 200 people.
Jennifer and I agree that there are so many options for areas for ceremonies, cocktail area, dinner and dancing space. The hotel staff and their gorgeous rooms truly make you feel as though you are at home, away from home. They offer afternoon tea and cookies to all guests staying at the hotel. There is an on site restaurant to offer snacks/meals as well as a full bar. Your guests can take advantage to walk away at nights end from your party with a just a few steps to their hotel room.
The exquisite JH Adams Inn patio area is the perfect setting for outdoor ceremonies and dinner receptions. The places in which to do photographs are endless and just think about dancing the night away under the stars! Talk to Leahann Bowen-Schmitt at the JH Adams inn at 336-882-3267 or visit their website JH Adams!
